BetterJoy Troubleshooting: Fixes for the Errors People Actually Hit
Every fix on this page is built from the BetterJoy project’s own record — its official wiki FAQ and the real GitHub issue threads where these problems were reported, diagnosed, and (where a fix exists) solved. Find your symptom below: the exact console message, the controller behaviour, or the situation you are in. If your program itself is out of date or never installed cleanly, start from the BetterJoy download page and the tutorials hub first, then come back here.
Not detected, hidden, or not recognised
- BetterJoy Not Detecting Your Controller — the “No Joycons detected” fix sequence: remove and re-pair, run order, and the USB test that isolates Bluetooth.
- Controller Unusable After BetterJoy — your controller vanished from every other program: release it from the HIDGuardian blacklist at localhost:26762, in the safe order.
- PowerA & Third-Party Controllers Not Recognized — Windows sees the pad, BetterJoy never lists it: the realistic checklist and the honest stopping point.
Won’t start and driver errors
- BetterJoy Crashes on Startup or Won’t Start — the .NET exception dialog, the comma-locale config bug that v7.1 itself fixed, corrupted config recovery, and driver-conflict isolation.
- Fixing vigembusnotfoundexception — the virtual bus driver is missing or broken: the remove, reinstall (1.22.0), reboot repair.
Double input and console floods
- BetterJoy Double Input Fix — the game sees the physical and virtual controllers at once: hide the physical one with HidHide, and never mix it with HIDGuardian.
- “Duplicate Timestamp Enqueued” Explained — what the console flood means, the author’s DirectInput-vs-XInput root cause, and when it is safe to ignore.
Motion and gyro
- Gyro Not Working in Cemu — DSU server checks in order: the 127.0.0.1:26760 address, the motion-source slot, the wiki’s reset — and when Cemu’s native SDL motion is the better route.
Bluetooth behaviour and battery
- Joy-Con Bluetooth Lag Fixes — the Intel driver version that matters, the multi-connection adapter ceiling, rumble load, and when a dedicated USB adapter is the real answer.
- Low Battery Notification Spam — what the popup and the icon colour actually mean, the two documented glitch patterns, and charging while you play.
Still stuck?
Re-run the sequence that solves most “mystery” cases: a clean copy of the program from the download page, drivers installed and rebooted, controller freshly paired, and exactly one input layer in charge. If your problem turns out to be a “how do I” rather than a “why doesn’t it,” the BetterJoy tutorials hub covers setup, layouts, gyro modes, and the config file step by step.
