BetterJoy Tutorials: From First Install to Gyro Aiming
BetterJoy turns a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, Joy-Cons, or Switch SNES controller into a PC controller — with real gyro. These tutorials walk through everything in the order you will actually need it: install the program and its driver, connect your controller, choose a Joy-Con layout, then go deeper with gyro aiming, button remapping, and the configuration file. New here? Start with the install guide, and grab the program itself from the BetterJoy download page.
Getting started
- How to Use BetterJoyForCemu: Install and First-Run Guide — the complete setup: extract the ZIP, install the ViGEmBus driver, reboot, pair, and configure your emulator.
- How to Update BetterJoy to v7.1 and Keep Your Settings — moving up from v7.0 or v6.x without losing your config, plus old-driver cleanup.
Connecting controllers
- How to Connect a Switch Pro Controller to PC — Bluetooth and USB pairing, disconnecting, reconnecting, and removing a stale pairing.
- How to Connect Joy-Cons to PC — pair each Joy-Con separately, confirm them in BetterJoy, and locate them by vibration.
- How to Add Third-Party Controllers to BetterJoy — the v7 Add Controllers button, calibration values, and the honest limits of clone pads.
Joy-Con layouts
- How to Use Joy-Cons as One Controller — join a pair into a single gamepad, split it again, and switch orientation from the sticks.
- How to Use a Single Joy-Con on PC — vertical single-Joy-Con play, and turning one pair into two controllers for two players.
Gyro and mapping
- How to Use Gyro as a Mouse — gyro aiming for PC games: the activate-gyro button, stability tips, and which gyro output to use where.
- How to Remap Buttons in BetterJoy — bind SL, SR, and Capture to keyboard keys, swap A/B and X/Y, and map gyro to the stick.
Settings deep dive
- BetterJoy Config File Guide — BetterJoyForCemu.exe.config explained: safe editing, backups, and the documented keys (DoNotRejoinJoycons, calibration values, inactivity timeout).
Something not working instead? These tutorials assume a healthy install. Connection failures, double inputs, and gyro problems each have their own causes — work through the install guide once more, checking the driver step and the reboot, before assuming the worst.
